It looks like college athletes will finally get their say in the multibillion-dollar business of the NCAA.

The matter has been on-going for years now, and it looks like the “little guy” that is the athlete, will get some sort of compensation. While the situation isn’t as cut and dry as we would like it to be, some good should come out of it. Athletes will be entitled to a $5,000 trust fund that will be available to them upon leaving school. This is where it gets tricky, they will be paid ONLY if their likeness, or name has been used in sales of any merchandise, goods, video games, etc. The universities may not even have to pay out if they don’t put any specific player detailing on whatever they sell, making it somewhat easy for them to dance around this obstacle.

While the amount being granted to the student-athletes may be meager pennies in comparison to the substantial amount of money that they bring in for the schools, it’s a start at least.

What do you guys think of the ruling by the courts? How do you feel about the NCAA business model where the athlete is the one who doesn’t profit? Please weigh in with your comments.
