1. Tweak your daily routine

For most of us, it’s always easier to stay in bed and cozy up between the sheets instead of prepping ourselves for the gym. Here’s an effective tip: Prepare everything you need beforehand, like laying out your gym clothes on the side of your bed the night before or putting your gym shoes by the doorway. If you intend to pack a healthy snack/lunch, do it the night before. This simple tweak makes a great impact on your routine, thereby encouraging you more to get moving.

2. Have a source of inspiration

Whether it’s a picture of you 50 pounds ago, a beach you’re eyeing to visit, or this hot lady you wished you could get at the gym, having a source of inspiration will keep you motivated. When the going gets tough, the tough go back and draw from that source of inspiration to remind themselves why they’re at the gym in the first place.

3. Get a gym buddy

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book. When you have someone with you who is practically a gym rat, then trust that there’s an extra hand ready to drag your ass out of the house and onto that treadmill.

4. Join a nearby gym you actually like

Here’s the thing: When you opt for a gym that’s quite far from your house, you either end up spending a lot on transportation or opt to just stay in and be a couch potato. Now when you enlist for a gym that’s nearby and one that you actually like going to, then things will be a lot easier. Going to the gym should be more of an enjoyment than a burden.

5. Be realistic

So you’re about to hit the gym and after a day there, you tell yourself you need to lose 80 pounds in a month. Snap out of it and stop setting unrealistic goals because they only come with unrealistic expectations which can end in utter disappointment. Take it one step at a time and make sure you are setting goals equal to baby steps, especially when starting. Gradually work your way up and increase the level of your expectations and goals as you go along.

Being motivated for the gym isn’t rocket science nor is it impossible. Just getting to the gym is already half the battle and all it takes is a good sense of direction and better habits to get you to the top. So go ahead and give these tips a shot.
