A fundamentally simple game at its core, table tennis just became a whole lot more modern with the addition of the Table Tennis trainer — the invention of designer Thomas Mayer. As a continuation of his Bachelor’s degree thesis, the setup involves an array of two motion-tracking PlayStation Eye cameras and a projector above the table.

The result is a live-mapping projection on the table that presents a plethora of information for the players, including scoreboards, training schedules and performance reviews. The most exciting features, however, are the training modules that provide accuracy and focus training, among others. Hopefully a mass market version is underway, as it would certainly become a hit with tech startup offices everywhere.
