Plans are underway for a network of cable cars connecting Chicago’s city center. Devised and designed by architecture firms Davis Brody Bond and Marks Barfield, the “Chicago Skyline” cable cars are an aerial tourist attraction as well as viable transportation option. It is slated to connect Navy Pier, the lakefront and the riverwalk with downtown Chicago. The system would have stations positioned by Millenium Park and Michigan Avenue to encourage visitors to appreciate the city’s architecture without the use of cars. Designed to carry 3,000 people per hour at 800 feet/minute, the route can offer 30 minute tours 17 storeys above ground level. Currently, the project is still in its initial stages.
