Derrick Rose‘s devastating meniscus tear that ended his second consecutive season goes far beyond just this year and these playoffs. While there’s no doubting that he’ll be ready to go opening day next season, the real question remains: what type of player will he be?

Truthfully, if anyone could return a second time it would be Rose. But if he’s thinking about coming back in some Adidas, then he’s lost it.

It’s no secret that the popular shoe brand is cursed, with athletes all across the field suffering from some of the worst injuries while wearing them. But if two times isn’t enough for him to finally make the switch, then he hasn’t learned his lesson.

What’s worse is that Adidas may scumbag D Rose by reducing his contract if his shoe-sales underperform following his latest injury. Chances are, they will.

According to Darren Rovell from ESPN, a portion Derrick’s $200 million-plus contract is at stake if his next edition of D Rose 4 sales are affected.

Sources say the adidas deal with Rose can’t be undone, but the company can start to recover money once Rose misses two-thirds of any given season. If the company can prove that shoe sales gave been hurt, it can deduct some of the money owed to Rose. It’s uncertain what happened last year when Rose missed the season following ACL surgery. Adidas might need some of that extra cash because it can’t possibly leave the game. Sure, soccer is more important to its overall portfolio, but as the official apparel licensee of the NBA, adidas has to have a presence in the signature shoe game.
If their star spokesman is unable to perform to their standards, then surely they’re just ready to jump ship and sign soon-to-be rookie sensation Andrew Wiggins to a ridiculously overloaded contract. It’s just business at this point.

But beware, young Andrew. Don’t forget about the curse!
