Airline in-flight entertainment systems have made major strides in terms of content in the past few years, but many patrons are still stuck with the tiny screens with poor displays. Thales thinks the industry can do a lot better, and has just previewed a new in-flight entertainment system called Digital Sky. The prototype gives each (presumably coach) passenger a massive 21.3-inch touchscreen. However, the screens are in portrait orientation to fit into seats, leading to some extra space while you’re tuning into your movie. Despite that, the bigger screen is much more capable of new services such as displaying the in-flight magazine, duty free items for sale, or local highlights at your destination. While there aren’t any confirmed partners just yet, we can all be thankful for some improvement in this area.
