The first night of Jay-Z’s “Made in America” festival saw a wide array of artists take the stage for what proved to be a slew of great performances. Many thought Beyonce was set to hit the stage with her husband, but Hov had another special guest in mind. A pre-recorded video of President Barack Obama appeared on the big screen where he gave Jay a shoutout and also encouraged those in attendance to vote in this year’s election.

There was a mixture of Hip-Hop and R&B artists present which made for the highly diverse music that was performed throughout the night. Roc Nation artist Jay Electronica held it down for the rap fans while singers Janelle Monae and D’Angelo slowed things down a bit. Soon after that, pop bands such as Miike Snow and Passion Pit did their thing as well.

Later in the night, Jay-Z himself took the stage and performed for almost two hours. He went through tracks such as “Izzo (H.O.V.A.)” and “Empire State of Mind” before performing “Murda Murda” and “Excuse Me Miss,” which haven’t been heard in a while.

Though fans from different cities and states made their way to Philadelphia for the much anticipated concert, there was several hometown fans in attendance. So Jay brought out Philly natives Young Chris & Neef Buck as well as Freeway for a bit of a State Property reunion. Memphis Bleek also joined the crew as he helped Hov perform the tracks “What We Do” and “You, Me Him and Her.” The large crowd began to chant Beanie Sigel’s name, but he recently began a prison sentence which prevented him from taking part in any events.

The show officially ended around 10:30 pm, but Jay-Z had more surprises for the first night of the festival. He brought out the G.O.O.D. Music family of Kanye West, Pusha T, and Common as well as 2 Chainz, who remains an unofficial member. The night ended after Jay returned to the stage and performed the hit single “N****s in Paris” with Kanye West. Fireworks went off as the song came to a close.
