Warner Bros.’s upcoming feature The Way Back sees Academy Award winning Ben Affleck reunited with director Gavin O’Connor.

In the film Affleck portrays Jack Cunningham, an alcoholic construction worker who was a former high school basketball phenom. Years after losing a full university scholarship and ruining his marriage from his addiction, he is unexpectedly asked to coach his alma mater’s basketball team. This then sets course for Cunningham to find redemption. “I spent a lot of time hurting myself,” Affleck can be heard saying in the trailer. “I made a lot of bad decisions. I’ve got a lot of regrets.”

Along with Affleck, the film stars Al Madrigal (Night School), Michaela Watkins (Casual), Janina Gavankar (True Blood), and Glynn Turman (Bumblebee). The last time Affleck and O’Connor worked together was on the 2016 action-thriller The Accountant.

The Way Back is scheduled for a March 6, 2020 release date.
