We’re learning a lot about Pete Carroll now that he’s a championship caliber coach in the NFL. Before, we just knew him as the cool California guy at USC, but in just three short years in the league, he’s built one of the most impressive rosters that will now be competing in the biggest stage of them all at the Super Bowl.

One thing we learned about Petey just recently is that he doesn’t believe the official story of 9/11. Shocking to some, but the evidence is there. But now he’s making some claims we can all agree with — marijuana is good, and it can be used in the NFL.

He spoke to reporters in New Jersey on Monday where the conversation turned quickly to the topic of player health and pot use in the NFL. This is what he had to say:

“I would say that we have to explore and find ways to make our game a better game and take care of our players in whatever way possible. Regardless of what other stigmas might be involved, we have to do this because the world of medicine is doing this.”

What makes these comments even more interesting, is that Roger Goodell had similar sentiments recently, and now it looks like players will soon be able to get away with this.

Marijuana use has been an issue in the NFL for decades now, but for the entirely opposite reason. Now it’s brought into a new light where it’s being looked at for what it is — medicine — and finally gaining support from both players and executives.

For even more proof that this is a trending topic, check out this snippet from a recent HBO “Real Sports” episode where they examine whether the plant could be used as a legitimate painkiller for players. It’s happening, guys!
