Apple announced the newest version of the iPad tablet earlier today, a much thinner and lighter model called the iPad Air.

The device’s specs and quality of internal components were revealed as well, and we’ve broken them down for you in the eight things you need to know about the iPad Air.

1. The device is 25% thinner than previous Apple tablets and is just 28% of its successor’s weight.

2. The screen size and resolution, however, are mostly the same. The screen measures 9.7-inch Retina Display with a 2048×1536.

3. The iPad Air features a 64-bit A7 processor and the M7 motion co-processor also found in the iPhone 5S. Apple says this processor is 72 times faster than the previous one and will generate graphics eight times faster than the first generation of iPads did.

3. The tablet’s photographic capabilities include a 5-megapixel iSight camera and FaceTime HD front-facing camera. This is considered a huge jump from the mildly outdated camera technology of the previous model.

4. Apple says the Air can transfer data on Wi-Fi at twice the usual rate thanks to its new ability to support MIMO 802.11n Internet technology.

5. The tablet will be available in black, white, silver and grey.

6. As of now, the release date is November 1. The starting price in “dozens” of countries is $499.

7. A 4G LTE 16GB version will be available starting at $629.

8. Battery life for the Air extends to a full ten hours.
