My theory is very similar to college coaches, Gruden flirts with these NFL jobs to squeeze ESPN out of more money.

He is already making $6+ million, but a couple of more never hurt anyone. The Philly Daily News says he had someone get in touch with the Eagles for him.

Gruden is doing his biennial return-to-coaching tire-kicking. Whether he’s serious this time or just needs his ego massaged still is unclear.

But a league source told the Daily News that he has informed Lurie, through an intermediary, that he is interested in the Eagles’ head-coaching job.

Why would Gruden leave a cushy job with ESPN for the Eagles who aren’t really built for success immediately doesn’t make much sense.

Which is why I think it is just a ploy on Gruden’s part.
