Shannon Easton has become the NFL’s first female ref. This is truly groundbreaking in the field of men’s professional athletics. Although the NBA has had female referees, the NFL seems to be a tougher fit for females. The brutal sport typically garners the interest of only the most macho of men, some of whom would not like to see any women on the field unless they’re donning a short skirt or a microphone.

In past years however the NFL has seen a swing in their fan base to now include people in all walks of life. The NFL and football have transcended their image as a boy’s club, where only the strongest survive and have crossed into the realm of entertainment. Football might now even be considered America’s greatest past time so it is only fit that this can be shared with American’s on both sides of the sexual spectrum.

For most reading this the notion might not be the best idea. Football’s a tough, physical sport and sometimes the refs get caught in the action. Not only that a lot of the players don’t always stand up to the image of what we would call an upstanding citizen. This could prove problematic if any onfield conflict were to occur with Easton as the focal point. However don’t worry too much about Easton has been around the block as a football ref and she, and the NFL seem to be confident that she can hold her own.
