120,000 homes were destroyed and tens of thousands of tents were distributed after heavy monsoon rains in the provinces of Balochistan and Sindh. Officials say that roughly 80% of the population was affected but the situation is nowhere near as devastating as the floods 2 years ago. Regardless, multiple medical posts have been set up to accommodate the 500,000 displaced with gastric problems, malaria and other illnesses.

Officials say that tents, food, and medicine are running low, as a BBC reporter travelling through the province of Baluchistan (the largest province with the least amount of infrastructure and services) reports that many have resorted to living on the driest piece of land they can find and wait for better news. Food shortages have become so low in Balochistan that many are getting by on as little as one meal a day.

Baloshistan is also facing the issue of violence from many militant groups, one of which are the Baloch separatists, who want more autonomy and a greater share of the natural resources. As well, according to BBC’s Syed Shoaib Hasan, in Karachi, says that kidnapping from militant groups has made it nearly impossible for agencies wanting to provide aid to operate.
