One of Twitter’s defining features is set to change. The ground-breaking social media platform is planning to extend its long-held 140-character limit to as many as 10,000 according to many sources, beginning with Re/code. Following a public post by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, the platform is looking deep into how its users and their messages have evolved, especially in light of stiff competition from new and established services from around the world. The change would match a similar move from July when private messages were expanded to 10,000 characters, but the change to the front end is said to come with a way for readers to expand the Tweet beyond the first 140. Read Dorsey’s rationale below and then let us know what do you think of the move.
