The Game Boy about 20 years ago, then the DS, and now the 3DS. So, what’s to come next in the Nintendo family of handhelds? Apparently, we’ll find that part out sooner rather than later.

According to Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo is more focused on the successor to the 3DS than anything else. Handheld speaking of course, potential Wii U customers need not apply here.

“I really feel like I’m satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is,” Miyamoto said. “I feel like it’s the best for this generation. What we’re thinking about right now is probably going to be a future generation of handheld.”

What that handheld is exactly is unknown as of now, but Miyamoto did emphasize that he feels like there can be more done with the current 3DS handheld, let alone 3D gaming in general.
